Congratulations to David O'Toole from Mt Pleasant Ganiard Elementary

March 2022 CFX Golden Apple Award Winner

Constance Wing nominted David, saying "David the teacher for the resource room at ganiard elementary and beyond being an amazing teacher he goes out of his way to help his students even buying my twin girls cookies to pass out on their birthday. But he will also make extra trips to his students house to drop off supplies needed! As does the para pros that help out."

Melissa Ferry nominated David, saying "David teaches special education in the mildly cognitively impaired classroom to a wide variety of students with diverse needs. David shows a genuine concern for all of his students and makes each individual feel cared for and special. His warm, reassuring manner calms a frustrated child in minutes and his perceptive abilities allow him to recognize a student's frustration level and adapt for it. He is a highly motivated teacher who has engaging and differentiated lessons. He is serious about helping each student achieve to their potential. David deserves the recognition of being an amazing teacher because not only does he devote his very best to his students but is also extremely patient, flexibl e, and helpful to the paraprofessionals he works with, ancillary team, and general education coworkers. It is truly an honor to recommend David for this award as he most definitely enhances the integrity and spirit of our building and the students we work with."

The Special Education Team at Ganiard Elementary nominated David, saying "Mr. O'Toole believes that ALL students can learn to be readers, writers, communicators and mathematicians! He never limits any student and is always looking for new strategies to ensure that he teaches his students in the way that works best for them. Mr. O'Toole is always calm, patient, flexible and encouraging. He quietly works behind the scenes to not only make sure his students receive a quality education, but also to ensure they are cared for and have all of their basic needs met. That means he often provides food, clothing and emotional support to his students and th eir families. He seeks to develop caring relationships with his students, the families of his students, and his colleagues. His students make significant growth in academics, daily living skills, communication and social emotional skills because of his commitment and hard work. The Ganiard Gators are so lucky to have Mr. O'Toole and we thank him for all he does!"
