Congratulations to Kimberly Funnell from Mt Pleasant Public Schools

November 2022 CFX Golden Apple Award Winner

Anna Gilbert & the Mt Pleasant Public School Employees nominated Kim for the Golden Apple Award, saying Kim oversaw the Great Start Readiness Program, was the State and Federal Programs coordinator, director for Adult and Community Education along with Oasis-WAY, fulfilled duties with kindergarten round up, and was the homeless liaison for Mt. Pleasant Schools.

Kim was always willing to jump in on any task the district may need help with. She tackled everything with a smile and positivity. When the set aside dollars for homeless families ran out, Kim would purchase food, etc. for families from her own funds. She had such compassion for the needs of the homeless and less fortunate. When a homeless family was placed in their own housing, Kim would make contact with school staff and local vendors to see if any household items were available.  Kim and her husband would frequently go pick up items on their own time to deliver to families. She took time to contact the Clothing Closet on several occasions to bring people there to help with clothing needs.

Kim is always so giving and selfless. She was always available via her personal cell phone for homeless situations and she would do her best to secure lodging, clothing, food, etc. for those she helped. Kim's duties were never 8:00 - 5:00. She came in early, stayed late, worked evenings and many weekends. She worked out of two buildings and always made time to greet students by name and made sure they received breakfast and lunch. She always made time for teaching staff and assisted them by connecting them with her many district contacts. She did whatever it took to complete a task or to meet a deadline. Kim always gave everything her all, never cut corners or tried to find a time saving way to complete assignments. She has great dignity and always accepted any new assignment that was put on her plate. No complaints - just another challenge for her to master. Over the years, she did all of her assignments, plus, while raising a family and continuing her education in addition to trying to start-up a personal business with her husband. Kim Funnell’s dedication to education makes her a superhero!
